Paper Wasp

by ~therage3k

Beauty.
Delicate paper spun
sphere within sphere.
Beauty.
A retractable stinger
able to bring prey
to its knees
and defend
the paper sphere.

But her beauty has
no choice.
Her beauty is easy.
She stings when
it is time to sting,
and spins paper
when it is time.

While we are left
with a more complex
beauty.
When is it time for
us to sting?
for us to spin paper?
Will we ever
get it right?

I had knocked down a wasp nest off my front porch. Then I showed it to my kids. A couple days ago, while cleaning up, I realized I still had it and I got to thinking about wasps and their beauty, and that lead down the road of instincts vs choices, and all ends in joyous yet rhetorical question.
:icondarklightmedia:
nope. not likely anyway. But hooray that we keep trying anyway even though we know we'll never get it right!
